IT’S A GIRL!
Our beautiful daughter, Violet Anne Lifford, arrived on Monday, 31 January 2005, at 5:26 p.m. central time, weighing in at 7 pounds, 13.4 ounces. Absolutely nothing could have prepared us for the overwhelming surge of joy and love at the moment she came into the world. The first batch of pictures is on my Yahoo! Photos site.
Mom and baby are both in good health — Violet stayed the first two nights in the NICU for some antibiotics and observation since mommy was running a slight fever during labor, but the doctors assured us that it was pretty much just a formality. She was allowed to come stay with us in Cheris’ postpartum room on Wednesday morning and then come home with us that same evening. The labor got started on Saturday night, but that’s a long story for another time…
The winner of the guessing contest is REBA, one of our beloved friends and co-conspirator in the quilt project! She was the only one of five people guessing the correct date to predict that we’d have a girl. Honorable mentions to the other four who nailed the birthdate:
- my Hoover’s colleague Jon, who also got the weight within six tenths of an ounce!
- another erstwhile colleague, Darryl, who not only had the right date and it’s his birthday too
- my buddy Brent, who just plain kicks ass
- Brian Ross, who I’ve never even laid eyes upon but have become acquainted with through the magic of this crazy Inter-web
With that, if you’ll excuse me, I must go bask in Violet’s loveliness. Now.
UPDATE: after some basking, just uploaded some more photos that Cheris’ mom took at the hospital and back here at the house today.
