what’s the deal?

Hmmm, the blog seems to have disappered but the admin area still works. Yesterday I ran Dreamhost’s one-click upgrade from WordPress 2.0 to 2.0.1 and it seemed to work fine, but I haven’t done anything else with the blog between then and now and it’s pretty hosed. Oh, well. Our staff of trained monkeys is working feverishly to get to the bottom of this.

UPDATE: As you can see, it’s, uh, back. And I’m a total dumbass. I must have just deleted the index file when I deleted two other unnecessary files on the server.

what was the #1 song the day you were born?

Just another stupid little thing I love about the Internet: it’s so damn easy to find out the #1 song the day you were born.

Mine: “Love’s Theme,” by Love Unlimited Orchestra (iTunes Music Store link—requires iTunes). No wonder I’m such a cheeseball.

My wife’s: Clapton’s version of “I Shot the Sheriff”. She didn’t shoot the deputy.

My daughter’s isn’t on that site yet. Harrumph.

help me help kids in need. by going bowling.

Yep, simply by sending me bowling with a bunch of my co-workers, you can help out needy kids. For the second time, I’ll be joining in on Bowl For Kids’ Sake, a big fundraising event of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas.

I—and especially the kids who benefit—would really appreciate your sponsorship: visit my fundraising page now and donate securely over the web by credit card.

Update: I’ve met my fundraising goal thanks to a very generous donation from my dad (thanks, dad!), but still, every dollar I raise helps cover my teammates if they have a shortfall, and it’s all for a great cause… so go ahead: I dare you to outpledge my dad.

Update 2: The event is this Friday, Feb. 24, so there’s still time to help out.

search with Blingo and win stuff

So, there’s this search engine called Blingo that gives away prizes a few times a day—iPods, Playstations, Visa gift cards, and other goodies. All the search results are actually just Google results, so you might as well be using Blingo instead and getting a chance to win something every time you search the web (actually, it’s your first ten Blingo searches per day that are eligible to win).

Even better: the Blingo Friends program keeps track of who referred who, so if I win something, the person who referred me wins stuff too. And if you accept this referral from me, sign up, and win something, well, I’ll get it too. We’ve been using Blingo for a while but our buddy Shannon finally hipped us up to the referral program, so now I gots to spread the word.

So go on and sign up already! If you’re a Firefox user, you can add Blingo to your browser search field.

table and chairs to go

I love the mealbox.

Besides being a beautful little piece of industrial design, there’s just something very appealing to me about the hyper-literal product description; I think it’s just something about the way Norwegians write in English:

Japanese-style dining-table with chairs that can all be packed in a box.

Yep, it sure can.

picture this

I’m really, really getting to love Google Video.

Here’s a little gem I just found: a very skillful home-brewed version of a TV spot from that cool HP digital photography & printing campaign.

Update: and who in their right minds wouldn’t love Matrix Ping Pong?
