A while ago some colleagues and I (not 100% sure but Ant and Jon must have been primary accomplices) brainstormed a list of seriously nerdy computer/web development band names that we hadn’t seen anyone using yet, but we forgot to write them down. Just recording the ones I can remember for posterity.
If these phrases make no sense to you whatsoever, disregard this post and surf on along. If you’ve got some to add, well, there’s a comments link below…
- Kernel Panic (is that one even cooler as “Colonel Panic”?)
- Progressive Enhancement
- The Graceful Degraders
- Dual-Core
- The Character Entities
- WYSIWYG (pronounced “whizzywig” — I will really use this one if I ever play some of that space-jazz stuff again)
- Dubya 3C and the Validators
Crap, I’m already forgetting some of the ones I remembered that prompted me to sit down and write this. Must be past bedtime.
Tomorrow Graham turns eight weeks old. So much to blog but no time to blog it.
Long story short: he’s awesome. His big sister loves him madly.
Since I’m finding less and less time than usual to write posts here, I’ve finally succumbed to the phenomenon that is Twitter. “Microblogging” is the best description I’ve heard for it: each entry is limited to 140 characters and is made in response to the simple question “What are you doing?”
I’m not making my tweets (lingo alert: posts to Twitter) public, but if you’re interested in keeping up with me, create an account and be my guest. This is where I can be found.
Oh, and if you use Mac OS X there’s a great little free app you can use to read and write tweets (see, you’re getting it) called Twitterrific.

He’s here! We are just as thrilled as can be to introduce Graham David Lifford, born Saturday, April 14, at 11:23 a.m., weighing in at 7 pounds 5 ounces and measuring 19¾ inches. Mom and baby are both doing great and will be coming home tonight. Violet met her new little brother yesterday and seemed pretty thrilled about the whole thing.
Here are a few more photos; plenty more coming soon at our Flickr site.

Cheris has started a thread on her blog where you need to go guess our son’s birth date and time. This time around we’re not bothering to make you guess the weight.
Nostalgia enthusiasts can go back and see how well you guessed last time.
Kid666 is having some fun with a bizarre comment that showed up on his blog. I received that same comment in my moderation queue (so did quite a few others), so I’m officially jumping on that bandwagon by posting Kid’s banner.
Goopymart is an illustrator I’ve been watching (via Flickr) since I saw the killer logo he did for Austin’s own A Boy and His Computer a couple of years ago. He has talent in places that most of us don’t even have places. Here’s an instant classic:
